| Part I: FoundationBookterra was founded originally around 2000 BCE, but disappeared. It was absorbed in the numerous empires that swept across the world between then and its re-foundation after the Great Plague which wiped out most of civilization. Bookterra was re-founded in 2046 AD, or, 23 ARB (After Re-Birth), which has a zero at the date of the Great Plague instead of the supposed birth date of a religious figure. Bookterra was founded primarily on one principle: rationality. Part II: GovernanceBookterra is governed in accordance with the ideas of Objectivism. The following is a summary of the theory, in the words of Ayn Rand. (Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged, 1962) - Spoiler:
Objectivism, holds that:
1.) Reality exists as an objective absolute—facts are facts, independent of man’s feelings, wishes, hopes or fears.
2.) Reason (the faculty which identifies and integrates the material provided by man’s senses) is man’s only means of perceiving reality, his only source of knowledge, his only guide to action, and his basic means of survival.
3.) Man—every man—is an end in himself, not the means to the ends of others. He must exist for his own sake, neither sacrificing himself to others nor sacrificing others to himself. The pursuit of his own rational self-interest and of his own happiness is the highest moral purpose of his life.
4.) The ideal political-economic system is laissez-faire capitalism. It is a system where men deal with one another, not as victims and executioners, nor as masters and slaves, but as traders, by free, voluntary exchange to mutual benefit. It is a system where no man may obtain any values from others by resorting to physical force, and no man may initiate the use of physical force against others. The government acts only as a policeman that protects man’s rights; it uses physical force only in retaliation and only against those who initiate its use, such as criminals or foreign invaders. In a system of full capitalism, there should be (but, historically, has not yet been) a complete separation of state and economics, in the same way and for the same reasons as the separation of state and church.
What few laws exist are enforced by the court system, which consists of only four courts for all of Bookterra. These are rarely used. Bookterra is ruled by a single Autoarch who selects the next Autoarch, who selects the next, etc, etc. The Autoarch is to maintain the sovereignty of the individual, and this is the Authoarch's only goal. Part III: MilitaryBookterra does not recognize the right of any person to commit violence against another person. As such, it has no military. Civilians are permitted to keep firearms for their own personal defense, and approximately 24% of the population does this. Part IV: StatisticsPopulation: 500 million Religious breakdown: 99% None. 0.7% Agnostic. 0.3% Buddhist Average Life Checkpoints: 4 years, formal schooling begins 15 years, paid work begins 19 years, formal schooling ends 22 years, finds lifetime partner 81 years, dies Tech level: Corresponds to Earth circa 1912. Part V: ReligionBookterra does not have an official religion, and its founding principles are generally incompatible with any religion, as Bookterrans reject altruism, collectivism, and the unknowable.
