First Attempt at FTL a failure

Dr. Thorgood appears at the coordinates indicated 45 seconds before the given time accompanied by a ray of light that has no obvious origin and disappears when Thorgood materializes...

*After noticing the ray of light and a figure appearing in the garden one of the Reichguards approached the figure. His expression was hidden behind a face mask as part of his armor and his tone of voice was even and disinterested.*

Reichguard: You are the Burninite diplomat yes? The Hochmeister will see you now.

In the meantime, Talent Zhang waits and does paperwork. She also sends a message over to the Burnite vessel that beaming over will not be needed.

Thorgood smiles wryly. "You could call me the diplomat," he says through a Universal Translator. "I'm a scientist first. A politician second. Diplomat third. But thank you."

He follows the guard. He appears to be totally unarmed and vulnerable. Much like a human being, only slightly shorter, with longer and thinner limbs. Also moves in a smoother manner than human beings tend to, a careful observer would note, and has a slightly elongated skull.

But at first glance, just a skinny and maybe an odd human being.

The Burninite ship responds to Zhang that Thorgood will try to get them all in at once once he is received, but that this arrangement would be fine as well if the primitives do not agree.

*The guard lead the diplomats to the center of the garden where the Hochmeister was with his wife. Upon seeing the arrival of the entourage the Hochmeister kissed his wife and sent her off. The hochmeister was wearing the traditional robes of the Ordenreich. a black and gold set of light armor with a cape and a steel open helm medieval helmet. The Hochmeister picked a flower and twirled it around in his hand as he began to talk to the diplomats.*

Paul: Greetings. I am Hochmeister Paul III von Guelderlaand, member of house Guelderlaand dating back to the Second Great Exodus. I am honored to be the Hochmeister who is the first to meet an intelligent species other than our own.

Thorgood inclines his head respectfully. The Universal Translator at this point should be translating this all fairly perfectly.

"You'll meet plenty more as well, especially if you continue your endeavors with faster than light travel.

"But that is what I need to speak with you about urgently. You must understand that our race has no planet which to call home. A long story. Which you can be told if you are interested in hearing it, but in short, it means that the effects of those explosions had great effects on us and we would like to ensure that such a disaster does not befall either of our peoples again. May we speak in private or however is the custom for business among your people? Your planet, your customs."

*The Hochmeister sadly smiled once he heard what the ambassador had to say.*

Paul: This is the issue you wished to speak about? You need not worry about that any more. After our first experiment with FTL drives we lost 7 brave astronauts that day. As a result I ordered the cancellation of all further FTL experiments until further notice. We still are looking into the possibility of traveling using FTL drives but until we understand the theories better and build better drives we will not be heading into FTL space.

*The Hochmeister turns to the guard that led the Burninite delegation*

Paul: Leave us and take this flower to my wife.

Guard: Yah mein Hochmeister

*The Guard takes the flower and crosses his left arm across his chest and bows. He then leaves the delegation*

Paul: Speak freely here my friends. This may be just a garden but it is very secluded, guarded by my best snipers, and it has my people's top of the line counter-instrusion software you need not fear about privacy here

(OOC: Wait, are the others get escorted in, too, or is it just Thorgood right now?)

OOC: Burnination's entire party that he beamed to Livenstein

(OOC: I thought only Thorgood was beamed over.)

(OOC: It doesn't matter. Burnination can clarify and I will adjust accordingly

(OOC: It was just Thorgood, but doesn't matter either )

"Oh worry not, " Thorgood pauses as though searching for the appropriate honorific. Perhaps the Universal Translator provided the appropriate one, and perhaps it too left the spot blank. Difficult to say. "Our position is far from precarious. And I am sorry to hear that.

"The incident attracted so much notice because it caused the equivalent of an EM pulse in slipspace and thus damaged electrical systems all over the galaxy. We wanted to make you an offer to ensure that this incident was not repeated even were you to continue to endeavor with FTL transport, but it would be impolite to offer any form of technological assistance to a non-FTL society without the witness or approval of the other nations.

"Is there any way I could convince you to allow the other diplomats here now as well?"

*Paul inclined his head slightly in acknowledgement and mild approval. He then continued.*

Paul: You must understand, from my perspective we are a society that is only 30 years removed from a massive war that almost tore our planet apart. The arrival of a fair number of unknown and possibly armed warships to which we have no defenses against would cause a prompt and possibly erratic defense reaction. If these other people that followed you are as you say I will allow them to come here so we may discuss your proposal. If you wish I can provide you a drink if you wish while you wait. Would you like some soda, water, tea, coffee? I am sad to say that I am unfamiliar with what your people consider an appropriate beverage

Thorgood grins. "Thank you but that will be unnecessary. If I may take that as an allowance (no one else need know), there is no need to wait!"

A cup of tea promptly appears in Thorgood's hand as though from thin air. Again accompanied by that ray of light.

"Teleportation."

*The Hochmeister look a little unsettled at the sudden appearance of the cup of tea but quickly regained his composer.*

Paul: I see... well I guess I will have to make due with my people's humble preparations...

*Into mike located in the helmet the Hochmeister wears*

Paul: I would like a glass of water if you will. Also have the cooks make up a large basket of biscuits I'm a tad hungry and my guests might be as well. Thank you.

*Back to Thorgood*

Paul: Is there anything else you would like to talk about while we wait for the others or will we be forced to stand in awkward silence?

*The Hochmeister gives a slightly goofy smile as he says this*

Thorgood grins. "Well you are of course welcome to anything I can have brought to you. And it should take only a few moments for the others to arrive. They need only give consent for us to teleport them down here."

Thorgood must be wired, because the comm officer on the Spotlight sends a message to the Alpha Centauri delegate (OOC: Whose name I can't recall ) that he is invited to the ground now, and teleportation is still available. The Rhean diplomatic vessel is similarly contacted.

"And I must say, you have a planet, friend. That is far from a 'humble' preparation. Worry not -- no civilization advances as far as ours with too many prejudices.

"Also I must admit, I was tempted to come down here and do absurd things and claim them customary. But I resisted because I wouldn't have gotten away with it long."

(OOC: She, actually )

Talent Zhang accepts the offer of teleportation now that they are permitted to come.

The shuttle docks nearby and out walks an Asiatic man in red and black armor with a flowing black cape. Painted on the red gauntlets of his armor is a symbol in white. Clipped to his belt is a strange silver and black baton.

The Centauri diplomat is teleported directly to where Thorgood and the Hochmeister are talking.

*The Hochmeister to Thorgood*

Paul: Unlike the people of our legends we are fairly open to other people's customs as we are pretty extreme ourselves in terms of personality. My people are extremely fierce in combat but genuinely friendly during peacetime so whatever customs you have I am sure we can adapt to.

*notices the arrival of the other delegates and genuinely smiles warmly at them*

Paul: Greetings my friends I am Hochmeister Paul III von Guelderlaand of the Ordenreich, decedent of the Sacaen Teutonic Order and the Terran Teutonic Order. It is nice to finally meet you.

OOC: Note that the Ordenreich came through the stargate with relatively modern technology. The Ordenreich might have been around for a long time as of this RP but it still remembers many facts from the Sacaen Teutonic Order. The Terran Teutonic Order is the original knightly holy order from earth but that is so far back and so many records are lost that the Ordenreich believes it to be legend. Also note that the reason it is called the Terran Teutonic Order is because the Ordenreich uses the latin name version of earth because the Ordenreich's catholic past kept records of the traditional latin language spoken in the old churches

Talent Zhang bows, and says, "I expected as much, esteemed Hochmeister. When I heard the term 'Hochmeister' on communications completely untranslated, I had the term searched through the Datalinks and sure enough, the Teutonic Order of Old Earth came up. I'm not even going to begin to try to understand why there is a starfaring branch of an ancient group of knights from Earth, so instead allow me to welcome you formally as a member of the galactic community on behalf of the Planetary Governate of Alpha Centauri."

Then, she turns to face Doctor Thorgood, and says, "So Doctor Thorgood, could you provide us a summary of your negotiations with the Hochmeister?"

OOC: I'll wait till others post I have some more work at my job to do

He takes a seat. "Time displacement, most likely. It has happened before. It is how we came about."

Thorgood responds to Zhang: "Mostly we greeted, I quickly explained that the explosions of their failed FTL drives caused the equivalent of a faster than light EM pulse that disrupted international systems, and then said I'd like to make them an offer to ensure that this does not happen again. However I felt it would be rude to do so without international ambassadors present, so I got his permission to get you here."

Zhang nods, and replies, "Most agreeable. It would be best for the safety of both the OrdenReich and the galactic community at large if they were to be provided with information on how to build safe FTL devices and where not to travel in the galaxy."
