2282 Lillehammer Winter Olympics

Lillehammer, December 20th, 10:00 AM

The small town of Lillehammer is bustling with activity as athletes from around the world are flown in. Two mixed teams are formed for Bismouthis and others who declined to play for their countries, countries that are not widely recognized, and countries that do not wish to participate. In the case of Bismouth, it was an all or nothing deal for participation and their request to compete only in curling was denied.

Lillehammer, December 20th, 10:00 PM

At Lysgårdsbakkene Ski Jumping Arena, the opening ceremony begins, starting with a show depicting the various cultures of the Empire as the Swiss flag is raised and the Swiss Psalm is played.

Athletes of the varying nations march in with their flags as the Swiss Psalm is played. The first two are the mixed teams, represented by the Olympic flag. Then comes the Legion team, the New Vegas team, the Municipal team, the Kahndaq team, the Alanda and Alexia team, and finally, the Swiss team. Once they have marched out, King Harald IX of Norway makes his speech opening the 2282 Lillihammer Olympics, concluding with the theme of "Unity, Freedom, and Peace."

A massive fireworks display begins.

December 21, 2282
In Håkons Hall and Gjøvik Olympic Cavern Hall, the first round of ice hockey plays out, two games per rink that day.

The first match pitted the Swiss team against Mixed Team 2. As expected by spectators, it was a complete blowout. They are absolutely relentless on the offense and win 7-1.

The second match was little different as the A&A team mercilessly crushed Mixed Team 1 5-0.

The third match between the Legion team and New Vegas team is the most exciting game of the day, as the two teams battle it out for an intense sixty minutes of hockey. New Vegas starts off strong, scoring seven minutes into the first period. Five minutes later, New Vegas scored again, bringing the score to 2-0. The Legion rallies and counters with its own goal three minutes later. Just fifteen seconds before the period was over, the Legion scored again, ending the period with the two teams tied 2-2.

An intense second period goes nowhere as the two goalies stand strong. Fifteen minutes in, New Vegas manages to put one in the net after one of their players deflected a slap shot past the Legion goalie and into the top right corner. The second period ends with New Vegas leading the Legion 3-2.

In the third period, the Legion goalie was on fire, repelling any and all scoring attempts by New Vegas. Thirteen minutes into the third period, the Legion ties the game as one of their centers rips a one-timer right from the slot. The next six minutes is a frantic rush to score. Just three seconds before the clock ran out, the puck rebounded off the New Vegas' goalie's pads and into the air. The Legion captain swats it in baseball style and past the goaltender, to great cheers from the crowd. The Legion wins it, 4-3.

After that intense game, the match between the Municipal team and the Kahndaq team is anti-climactic. The Kahndaq team barely even knew what it was doing and it showed in their 8-2 defeat.

Meanwhile, luge and curling goes on. In both events, Alanda and Alexia upset the Swiss and take the gold medal. The Swiss took silver and the Municipals took bronze in those two.

The Municipal spectators clap politely the whole way.

December 22, 2282
The match this day pitted the plucky Legion team against the well-trained professional players of the Swiss team. There was no miracle available for the Legion and they were trounced 6-1.

The figure skating competition is the highlight of the day, if only for the sight of a Super Mutant attempting to figure skate. When the judges stopped laughing, they scored her higher than the two Mixed Team athletes. For the top contenders, it is a tight contest but ultimately, Alanda and Alexia gets gold again, with the UMNA earning silver and the Swiss earning bronze.

December 23, 2282

The match between the United Municipalities and Alanda and Alexia proved to be very exciting, leaving spectators on the edge of their seats the whole game. Alanda and Alexia outshot the Municipal team 21-14 in the first period alone but the Municipal goalie shut them down every time, including a stunning save when he reached around while flopped on his back and snatched the puck out of the air. The first period ends at 0-0. In the second period, after much more pelting of the Municipal goalie, they break through and score seven minutes into the period. After this, the Municipal team got its act together and started putting more shots on goal. The period ends 1-0 in favor of Alanda and Alexia. Thirty seconds into the third period, a Municipal left gets a breakaway and puts it in, tying the game 1-1. Eight minutes in, the Municipal team scores again, this time off a rebound. Four minutes later they score again. At a minute and a half left in the game, A&A pulls their goalie to put an extra skater on the ice. They hammer through and get one in with thirty seconds left on the clock. They try again but the Municipal goalie holds. They win 3-2.

The day concludes with speed skating. The Swiss skater remains a good distance ahead of the group and goes on to grab gold. The New Vegas skater comes in second, with the Mixed Team 2 skater right behind him, with the skaters from the UMNA and Kahndaq narrowly behind. The skaters from A&A and Mixed Team 1 come in a bit later and the Legion skater comes in last. To rehash, the Swiss got gold, New Vegas got silver, and Mixed Team 2 got bronze.

December 24, 2282

There are three skiing events on this day: downhill, slalom, and Alpine skiing combined. The A&A athlete completes the downhill course in 1:39, the Swiss athlete completes it in 1:41 and the Municipal athlete completes it in 1:44. Fourth was the New Vegas athlete, a Super Mutant who used to only take the bunny slope, then the Legion and Kahndaq athletes, then the two Mixed Team athletes.

The Swiss athlete takes gold in slalom, followed by the Municipal skier, who narrowly edged out the A&A skier.

A&A takes gold again in Alpine combined, followed by the Municipal skier and the Swiss skier.

Then came the bronze medal game for ice hockey. The Legion team held up very well, despite being highly outmatched. The first period ends 3-2, with A&A in the lead. The second period ends 5-4, with the Legion in the lead. Alas, the Legion breaks down in the third period, scoring only one goal while A&A recovers and puts six past the Legion goalie. The game ends 10-6, in favor of A&A.

December 25, 2282

The stadium is filled up for the Christmas day gold medal ice hockey match. In the first period, the Swiss team scored seven minutes in. The first period ends 1-0. The Municipal team responds in the second period four minutes in to tie it 1-1. A goal by the Swiss captain fourteen minutes in puts the Swiss ahead 2-1, where it remains for the rest of the second period. The Municipal team attempts to rally itself but fails as the Swiss team scores twice more, one at the eight minute mark and another at the twelve minute mark. The game ends 4-1.

Hours after the game, the closing ceremonies begin, with the medalists marched out to cheering crowds.
