Nag System, Veridian Dominion Territory....

The small transport sped across the stars towards the fifth planet of the Nag System. A gas giant, it was for the most part an unremarkable planet but was highly important to the Dominion. For around the planet lay the KDY shipyards, a massive superstructure built by the Kuat company through special trade agreements with the Dominion. It had come from the diplomatic agreements reached between the Dominion and the Rhean Confederacy early in the history of the Dominion once it became a known state in the galaxy.

KDY profited greatly from the arrangement as the Dominion was eager to buy anything and everything the company was willing to sell. Technology that could have taken the Veridians another few decades to build had been quickly developed thanks to KDY. The Dominion bought the technology, studied it, and then sold it to companies across the planet who then reserved engineered it to create Veridian original technology. However, as profitable as the relationship was it was not without its drawbacks. The Veridian Dominion was highly strict when it came to the way it did business. The administrators of the yards were constantly under pressure to produce various reports and other paperwork the Dominion demanded for their own files. This was particularly cumbersome when it came to supplies that had to be shipped in from Rhean space as the Dominion's customs authority could be, and often were, particularly asinine.

The one thing the administrators could count on, though, was the Dominion's consistency. They were never let when requesting a report and they were always on time when sending a representative for an inspection. The transport that now neared the station was on just such a mission. Though not cleared to see all the station, the Kuat Company and the Dominion had come to an understanding in terms of what the inspectors could see. Mostly they inspected the shipyards waste disposal mechanisms and other systems in an effort to ensure the yards were not putting the Veridian's home system at risk.

When the shuttle had reached the prescribed distance from the yard, it signaled the station for clearance to land.

"This is inspector Maelrok, requesting clearance to land for inspection...."

The shuttle moved forward, moving around the ringed station until it came to its assigned docking area. Landing inside the landing zone, the usual KDY personnel began moving towards the shuttle to greet their guest. Though the usual Didn't they just come last week? though ran through their minds, the usual pleasantries were exchanged when at last inspector Maelrok emerged from the spacecraft. Wearing the usual environmental suit, most of the station's personnel thought it so odd that the Veridians insisted on wearing them in every meeting with another species despite the fact that the KDY administrators of the station had perfect an environment for the station that mimicked conditions found on their homeworld.

After a few handshakes and minor pleasantries, inspector Maelrok gave the usual speech on why he was there, what he was looking for, and the Dominion's sincerest hope that all was still up to code so that KDY and the Dominion could continue their lucrative partnership. blah, blah, blah was what most heard when they had to sit through the speech. Like everytime before the inspector wasted little time in getting straight to work. Every area of the station that they were allowed into the inspector went. Some of the personnel of the station that happened to be working in the area when the inspector came through always found it amusing to watch them, if only for a moment. What's with all the touching some would think to themselves, as they watch the inspector run his hand around this valve or that pipe. Aside from he random "mmmmhmmmm" that came from the inspector, he said little else and certainly did not take time to make small talk.

After about an hour, he'd seen about all he was allowed to see. Standing for a moment and typing whatever it was he typed into his reports, he paused and then turned to the administrator. "The Dominion seems to have found an error in our last report. I was wondering, could you confirm the number of individuals currently employed on this station?"

"Five thousand, seven hundred and fifty-two plus four times that number in droids. It's the same as last week."
The administrator thought, OK. This is odd.

"Ah appears we were fifty short in our numbers, we apologize for the inconvenience" the inspector stated. "We simply wish to continue to have the accurate number of foreign nationals operating in our space. I'm sure the Rhean Confederacy is as viligant as we are when it comes to illegals in their territory. Ah but I digress...." Inspector Maelrok punched in the numbers to his data pad before looking back up at the administrator. "If you'll just place one of your fingers on the PAD there for a signature, I'll be on my way." He turned the PAD around before handing it out towards the Administrator.

"We certainly do. The destruction of Sharkcat City due to Sith infiltrators changed things." He signs the PAD and hands it back to the inspector with a grim look on his face.

"As usual administrator, the Dominion and business society of Veridia Prime would like to thank the Kuat Shipyards for their patience and understanding of our business practices and customs." Inspector Maelrok stated before opening a small pouch on his suit and procuring a small data rod (OOC: think Trek Isolinear rod). Putting it into the PAD he copied the data and then handed it to the Administrator. "Your company as usual. Well it has been a pleasure Administrator and I look forward to our next encounter." Taking the data rod the administrator fake a smile and the Veridian inspector was allowed back to the shuttle.

After the proper clearances were given, the shuttle launched from the station and sped its way back towards Veridia Prime. The trip was a relatively short one and the inspector remained in his suit the entire time. When he finally reached the planet he was flown to a small facility not far from the capital. At the facility he was met by his superior from the Kurium of Labor, Infrastructural, and Regional Development.

"We assume everything went as planned Inspector Maelrok" his superior stated. "Oh yes sir" said Maelrok with a smile, "everything went exactly as planned. No mess up from me, I can assure you of that." Maelrok's superior smiled, "good.....good. You've done well for yourself Maelrok, I imagine that given the work you've done for the Dominion you may get pardoned for that recent transgression." Maelrok cringed a bit at the thought, more so over the though of being collared than his violation. "At any rate" his superior continued, "you've been cleared for leave. Go home and get some rest, the office will call you when we hear more." Maelrok nodded and soon, after cleaning up and putting on new clothes he left the facility and caught a transport home.

Before turning in for the night, Maelrok began feeling the onset of a headache. He figured it was from the stress of his assignment and the anxiety with the waiting he'd no doubt have to endure. Thinking little else of it he went to bed. Little did he realize but already a few workers at the KDY shipyard were also complain of headache-like symptoms. Little did any of them know, it was only going to get worse.

It will not be until the dozenth headache that somebody notices something is off. The shipyard is placed on shutdown and those with headaches quarantined until they can isolate the cause. There is some suspicion that it was the Veridians who did this but most are currently dismissing it as xenophobic fear-mongering.

The Grand Hall of the Dominion, Veridia Prime....

For most on the home world, waking up to a new day on Veridia Prime was as uneventful has it had been the day before. People rose, they ate their morning meal, dressed, and were soon out the door and on to their various task whether it be work or school. However, this was not the case for a particular apartment tower in one of the living districts of the capital Paradisus Novum. For those who lived around it, they woke to find the tower surrounded by military personnel. The doors barred and the windows covered, for place was completely quarantined and no was being let out.

The Purge... Volkshalle

Across town, at the Grand Hall of the Dominion, the government complex was as busy as it had ever been. Various officials were running from one room to the next, the chatter was low on what exactly was going on but it was certainly clear to any outside observer (where there any) that something was amiss. Behind a particularly large set of doors, the Kuria of the Dominion met and they did so, in secret.

"This is a meeting of the Kuria, Executor D'Nal Jo'rek speaking. Under the powers of the Necessary Classification Act, this meeting is classified and shall be recorded for the archives of the Dominion only, priority one. Level 10 clearance shall be necessary to access the proceedings of this meeting." The Executor sat back in his seat, the room fell silent. Around him sat the various officials of the Kuria, his executive cabinet. He sat reviewing some of the material before him before finally breaking the silence again. "What do we know so far?"

"We know that at around 3:25am patient ZERO knocked the door of a neighbor for medication to ease his head pains "Kurian Keirianh of Health and Social Welfare stated. "The neighbor, patient ONE, then phoned the local emergency center who then came out to aid patient ZERO. Since that small interaction, whatever this is, it has spread to the entire population of the apartment tower patient ZERO lives. Despite multiple efforts to contain and slow its progress within the past several hours, all our attempts have failed."

"Have our quarantine efforts at least contained the infected."

"That we are aware at this point, yes" Kurian Ruwon of War replied. "We've posted personnel at every entrance and have at least a block around the building off-limits to traffic. We've also established checkpoints and are aiding in the relocation of those who lived in buildings around the infected facility."

"How are the infect?" the Executor asked.

"They are not doing well, subject ZERO is worst of all" Kurian Keirianh said. "Our scientist  are doing everything they can to ease the pain but we cannot stop the progression of this virus. The symptoms have been the same throughout each case since we discovered patient zero. It starts with the headaches, then the development of difficulty breathing, nausea and some uncontrollable drooling. Within a few hours time, patients begin to lose complete control of their bodily functions, vomiting, defecating, and urinating on themselves. We believe the final stage is the current new symptom of subject zero, uncontrollable twitches and convulsions that continue to increase in violence after they first begin."

"Do we have any idea where this came from?"

"Patient ZERO had just returned from an assignment on the Kuat Shipyard station" Kurian Movar of Foreign Affairs replied. "We've since quarantine the facility he returned to as well as anyone who came in contact with him since his return. Of particular interest was in environmental suit which our engineers have since discovered a tiny pin hole in. Whether or not it was manufacturer's failure or a man-made tear, we've yet determined."

The Executor sat quiet after that last answer, contemplating his options before he spoke again.

"This is a very dangerous situation for our people and the Dominion. We cannot allow this to spread any further or we risk a full-blown epidemic. I want ever available specialist we have on this. Furthermore, until stated otherwise I want that shipyard blockaded and quarantined. No doubt it is the origin of this disease and send out a general communique to the rest of the galaxy that until further notice, Dominion space is off limits. Have every available ship out there patrolling our territory. I don't want anything coming in or leaving without our knowledge. This meeting in adjourned...."

Within minutes of the meeting a small dispatched contingent of Dominion warships showed up at the doorstep of the Kuat station and without warning, surrounded the station. No doubt the personnel of the station got nervous, not out of fear as they no doubt possessed superior weapons but more out of the terrible misfortune of having to star a conflict if they were made to fire their weapons. Before such a difficult choice was made however, the lead warship of the group sent out a single message, audio only.

"Kuat Drive Yards, this is Captain Galathon of the Dominion third fleet. Under orders of the Dominion government we are quarantining your station until such time as we discover the origin and manner of a plague that currently threatens our home world. We have evidence to suggest that this sickness originated from your station. We demand to have answers as to the nature of this disease at once."

A similar and harsh message was broadcast, on loop, to any ships that came within several hundred light years of Dominion held space. No doubt word would travel fast through the various traders that would pick it up and eventually get to their governments.

Pravin Lal's Office, MY 2289

"Sir, we've gotten word from some of our traders on the Veridian tradelane that they've closed off their borders. Some kind of disease has broken out, and it seems that they're blaming KDY for it."

Brother Lal swiveled to face Talent Zhang who had appeared at his doorway with the news, and raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Is that so? Tell me more."

"I'm afraid that I've got little more for you at the moment, sir. Symptoms appear to be headaches, and then progressing ultimately towards total lack of body control. I've asked some of the pathology specialists what this might be, and they me that it doesn't match up with anything they're aware of. According to them, it's either an exotic xenopathogen or perhaps even an engineered disease."

Nodding, Brother Lal said, "Fascinating. Well, if they are truly closing off their borders, I see no reason why we would not oblige them, and prevent the spread of this disease. I want the Diplomatic Service to post a travel advisory prohibiting travel to the Veridian Dominion for any purpose, and for the Homeguard to turn away and order the quarantine of any Veridian vessel that tries to enter our borders."

"And what of the Veridians, sir? Shall we render unto them any aid? It might-"

Cutting her off, Brother Lal shook his head, and said, "They shall simply have to do without our aid."

Somewhat caught off guard, Talent Zhang looked into Lal's eyes, and composed herself. This certainly wasn't the Lal she was used to dealing with, but the message he had conveyed was apparent enough: Let the Veridians rot. We'll be better off without them.

"As you would have it, sir."

(OOC: Sorry about the lack of response. Busy with RL stuff.)

It takes several minutes before Captain Galathon receives an answer. A ragged man would appear on screen (or on the hologram, depending on what you have). "We don't know where the disease came from. We narrowed the time frame to some time during the visit by Inspector Maelrok but that is all we have achieved. We have made no progress in fighting the disease. A quarter of the station is already dead, our administrator the first to die. There are rumors that it was your government that introduced it to us. I did not want to believe it but now that I see you are also affected, I know those to be false. This is all we can offer. We are preparing to initiate the station's self-destruct if no further progress is made to keep the disease from spreading further."
