The Economics of Veridia Prime Empty

The Veridian Dominion has a capitalist mixed economy, which is fueled by abundant natural resources, a well-developed infrastructure, and high productivity. At last estimate, the private sector constitutes 86.4% of the economy, with global government activity accounting for 4.3% and local government activity the remaining 9.3%. Veridians entered into a industrial revolution through their internal conflicts that plague much of their history. Warfare for thousands of years helped to fuel their industrial development, but at the same time, hindered development due to the ever increasing amount of destruction each new conflict brought against the Veridian people. In fact, as a result of the last great war on Veridia Prime, the global economy crashed and a period of depression existed with widespread food shortages, rampant disease outbreaks, and a general breakdown of society itself. However, the rise of the Dominion and the dictatorship of Julian Augustine changed this and through progressive (sometimes viewed as aggressive by outside historians) economic policies, the Dominion not only resorted the global economy to that of an industrial powerhouse but went on to bring the Dominion into a post-industrial age.

One of the most prolific policies still used by the Dominion today, and what helps maintain the economy for the indefinite future, is the constant consumption policy. The Dominion has used social engineering to condition a social norm of valuing constant consumption over ideas like repair and preservation of goods. From birth Veridians are taught to believer that it is their civic duty to buy new rather than fix the old, as their purchase helps to continue to fuel their economy. Due to their constant consumption of goods the Dominion has near-universal employment to meet society's ever-growing material demands. This policy has, almost since its inception, has been the bedrock of economic and social stability for the Dominion. Now, with the advent of faster-than-light travel through the galaxy, the Dominion private sector has shifted from that of global recovery to a more space-faring manufacturing focus. Spaceship and Space station construction, weapons manufacturing, and energy production have become the major industries of the new economy of Veridia Prime. There is also a strong retail and entertainment sector that provides ever-expanding convenient goods and services to the population. With the advent of new technologies and techniques as well as government population policies, the agriculture sector has become highly efficient, with almost no reported cases of malnutrition or hunger on Veridia Prime.

It should be noted however, that the classification of Veridia Prime's economy of that of a capitalist mixed economy, can be considered by others as somewhat misleading. Some actually classify the Dominion's economy as that of a solely command economy. This stems primarily from the fact that the distinction between corporate leaders and government leaders is blurred. Many leaders in business are associated heavily and directly linked to many individuals within the government hierarchy. However, this blur is only noted by outside observers as the Dominion's official stance is that there is a distinct division between public and private sectors, adding that the only means in which the government influences the private sector is through the small amounts of regulations set against some industries to protect the workers.
