Purple Rain (PT)

Less than a day ago, we received reports of purple rain falling across the lands within our empire. Hours later, according to the reports, shadowed figures appeared, and systematically destroyed all vestiges of civilization. This sort of thing is usually non-remarkable, and quelled within days.

However, we have lost contact with several of our trading posts. They're gone.

We've captured one of the figures. He - or, more accurately, it - says that more are coming. They plan on completely annihilating life on this world.

Needless to say, the must be stopped.

We're mobilizing the armed forces. We'd like to form a coalition of forces to stop this threat before it gains momentum.

We come out now in search of allies as our magical protection has been broken. Our numbers are few, but we are strong. Swift replies bode well for our chances I think.

We've been able to pinpoint the area where we have had the least contact with people, and it happens to match the area where the most purple rain has been noted. As a result, we've deduced that this is the area which is the epicenter of the invaders' power bloc.

Attached is a map showing areas of lost contact, and the area we've called the epicenter, and the area we've marked as where our armies should converge.

(OOC: The map denotes that the DESERT area inside Monerite is the 'epicenter', and the northern tip of the green area near the epicenter is denoted as the convergence point.)

Conveniently enough, a portion of the occupation forces of western Monerite begin sweeping towards the desert, while rallying more forces in Monerite against the beings.

(OOC: Sela, you're supposed to be converging, not attacking solo! )

Meanwhile, the Ermarian army marches in, with their newest cavalry units leading the way. Baziron sweeps his troops in in support of the Monerite attack. Princess Diana arrives soon after, leading an army of 10,000 Amazons.

(OOC: No, I haven't gotten around to making the cavalry for Ermarian yet on the factbook).

The Blolrus expeditionary forces also coordinate an assault.

And when all these troops attack the desert at the same time from all different angles, strange things start to happen.

First, the armies walk through a heavy, black mist. When they go through it, the soldiers would report seeing things in the corners of their eyes. And hearing screams. But the oddest thing about this mass attack is that the target seems to have vanished.

Oh yes, all of the ... creatures ... seem to have left here.

As the majority of the armed forces of the world are on a wild-goose-chase in the Monerite desert, Purple Rain descends on outposts and isolated towns all across the world.

The Konarians, being warriors at heart, constantly maintain local militias for their empire's defense. Not terribly skilled, but they do what they can to fend off the beings. However, they still fall back and still cannot hold them back by themselves. Eventually one village launches a red warning flare, then another, then another, until most of the people in the area have realized the threat. Forces begin moving, but the villages are beginning to fall fast.

The Amazons move their army in to defend the villages, refusing to join the others in the wild chase. General Baziron elects to maintain a portion of his troops, 20,000 to remain on the chase, taking the other 80,000 with him to join the Amazons. General Gabor Krizsan II will be arriving soon with another field army of 100,000. General Bogdan Kesh will follow , as will General Ilai Hugo.

(OOC: One guy they wish they had: Limoncelli, but he's dead. Bogdan Kesh is too, but I have it as just a coincidence that they have the same name.)

Alas! Our plan seems to have backfired. I assume it is much worse for you ground peoples than it is for us.

We are withdrawing our expeditionary forces from the epicenter, and using them to secure our island. We suggest you also use your forces to retake any ground you've lost.

Sure enough, the armies of Blolrus disappear into the seas.

The Konarian expedition force immediately sweeps back into occupied Monerite while other Konarian forces begin moving out from major cities. A draft is called up, some 250,000 soldiers are readied in days.

As their other armies haven't arrived yet, and as Ermarian hasn't been attacked yet, Baziron reconnects with the rest of his army and moves to join with Konarian and Amazon forces.

Meanwhile on the island in Blolrus, the people run for the sea where there are enough troops to protect them. Buildings, farms, houses, livestock can be rebuilt and replenished. Lives cannot.

And when the expeditionary force returns, it begins to repel the attacks by the dark, seemingly-insubstantial figures.

And around this point, more Purple Rain falls all over the planet. Again. The attacks redouble.

People begin a retreat to stronghold cities with strong defenses., while military units begin condensing into larger units to better guard the people. Meanwhile, the message the Naga Queen sent is relayed to Omega, the physical representation of the Konarian destroyer god. Divine intervention will certainly not occur (The Destroyer and The Creator don't like to interfere directly), but Omega's small elite force of warriors and archers (all masters of various different weapons) begin tracking down shadow figures and attempt to capture them.

Diana attempts to lasso one. (OOC: Up to Burn if it works or not. And yes, this is Wonder Woman's lasso, which is supposed to be unbreakable. Those bound within are compelled to obey.)

The Ermarians attempt to freeze them, burn them, and pretty much everything short of summoning demons, to no avail.

The beings are defeated when engaged directly in battle. They try to inflict as many casualties as possible before retreating or being driven back. The thing is, they seem to have instant re-deployment. Whereas Blolran, Ermarian, and Konorian troops must travel for weeks at a time to make a significant trip, the beings seem to be able to deploy across the world in a matter of minutes in the form of more purple rain.

They might retreat when engaged head-on, but they just keep coming back.

Diana would manage to capture one in this way. The Naga Queen suggests attempting to gain insight into their species from the prisoner.

This leaves the Amazons to do a large portion of fighting, as they are much faster and stronger than the average human, male or female, with an average strength level of ten times that of the strongest human female.

Diana interrogates the captured one. "The Lasso of Truth compels you to obey. Tell me, what are you and what are your goals? Where is your base of operations?"

And the Konarians hunker down with a lack of better options. No direct confrontations, just an attempt to keep as many people safe as possible. Sieges against major cities will not work well with most of them having colossal defenses built over centuries, as well as simple irrigation systems to keep people nourished at the very least.

And so it comes out. The beings are part of a larger consciousness which has been brought here by an asteroid. Now that they have established their base of operations in the clouds above this world, they will not cease their attacks until they have taken control of the world and eliminated every last speck of civilization, or are completely destroyed. Completely. The consciousness is not dead until every one of its minions is defeated.

Of course. The hard way. (Do send us the good news Panzer.)

The Blolran armies secure Blolrus' island, sweeping away the presence of the beings. The island is now basically secure, with enough troops in any given place that it's be difficult to establish a foothold there.

This is disseminated to all the different nations.

"Our plan is to destroy as much of their base of operations as possible. The Purple Ray, a device we normally use to heal wounds, is being modified into a weapon which we hope will destroy the base of these creatures. Should it work, we will turn it against the creatures themselves."

The Konatians finally decide to push out and have secured most of Eastern Konosis. The west is still fighting hard but it's hard to move many troops while you could be attacked at any time.

Naga Queen Hagreeth is hopeful that if the clouds are destroyed, the creatures will not be able to launch Purple Rain wherever they please at any time.

It's not 'could be attacked at any time,' it's 'being attacked at all times.' There's always more Purple Rain falling. And always more attackers. However, with an area secure, the beings will not be able to form up enough numbers to take anything. It does seem to take them some time to assemble a war party.

Diana takes the modded Purple Ray and fires it into the clouds.

(OOC: Pass, don't have much to say.)

Which has the effect of dissipating them. Some of the cloud mass is melted away. The rest drifts apart, avoiding the ray. Almost like there's something sentient controlling it.

Anyway, the device works, but it'll take a while to actually hit all the clouds.

These actions seem to have put a bee in the bonnet of the creatures. The ensure that as long as they have the ability to transport instantly, they're determined to do it. All over Konosis, the Blolran landmass and New Ermarian, Purple Rain greatly increases, and so do the attacks the creature launch on civilization.
